UCCN2UNESCO just launched the 2017 Call for Applications for the “UNESCO Creative Cities Network” (UCCN). The Network created back at 2004 and today brings together 116 cities from 54 countries, placing creativity and cultural industries at the core of local development plans, and actively cooperating through inter-city partnerships at the international level.

The Network covers seven creative fields: Crafts and Folk Arts, Media Arts, Film, Design, Gastronomy, Literature and Music. By joining UCCN, cities acknowledge their commitment to sharing best practices, developing partnerships that promote creativity and the cultural industries, strengthening participation in cultural life and integrating culture in urban development plans.

UCCN1In order to strengthen the geographical balance of the Network, UNESCO proposed a specific cooperation framework under the 2017 UCCN Call for candidate cities of the Africa region, still under-represented within the Network.

“Join the Network and enhance your city’s creative potential for sustainable urban development, exchange know-how and cooperate on an international level!”

Applications must be submitted no later than 16 June 2017, midnight CET. The announcement of the Creative Cities designated in 2017 will be published on the UNESCO website on 31 October 2017.
